This photo series hangs in the stairwell

Six photographs from The Europeans series hang in stairwell B. As a photographer, Reinier Gerritsen does what we all like to do: people watching. His working method is unique. Dressed as a surveyor in a yellow safety vest, he peers through the lens of his camera. At a busy intersection, standing on steps, he is clearly visible, but not recognizable as a photographer. This way, people don't feel the urge to pose, and they can look around unguarded. This watching and being watched is a universal part of human behaviour. The advancing unification of Europe is unmistakable, yet the cultural identity of the people in different European capitals remains recognizable. The reflection in the purple sunglasses shows the photographer, recognizable in his yellow vest.
