
Can you spot the constellation 'Corona' ?
EGM Architects and a group of 18 artists designed the University Medical Center Utrecht. The idea was to let art and architecture reinforce each other. The hospital's position - built on the north-south axis - was the main starting point for the arts plan developed at the time. It resulted in 28 works of art that are incorporated into various locations, including the building walls and floors (see nos. 1 and 4).
Two of these artworks were created by Marinum Boezem. At the elevator plazas (in the elevator plaza C1 and in the elevator portal behind the main entrance), he rendered the northern and southern starry skies in two round floor panels. The constellations are inlaid with copper in large circular forms.
