Hidenori Mitsue (1969)
Nova (2009)
oil paint, spray paint, linnen, 200 x 160
What association do you have with this painting?
This painting is based on Japanese imagery, which the artist has accentuated with bright colours. Sacred mountains are part of Japanese culture and a common subject in Japanese painting. On the one hand, these mountains are a source of energy and life; on the other, they are a threat because of possible volcanic eruptions. Hidenori sees the application of paint as a craft. In a search for the possibilities of paint, he explores different techniques. But "his" painting is only really created the moment the viewer looks at it; Mitsue believes it is important that the viewer himself adds value and meaning.
