What appeals to you in this painting?
Van der Sterren shows us the drive for bigger, more and better. He thematizes the lure of quick, obvious successes. He also refers to the overconsumption in our society with theatrical colours and a thick and pasty use of paint. In this artwork, bunches of fruit hang seductively from the branches. Only the base of the tree is visible, where the low-hanging fruit is easy to pick.
